June 2016 Science Week

The whole school joined together for The Wonderful World of Science week. We enjoyed the visit by the Explorer Dome and Science Oxford. The children enjoyed planning and carrying out their investigations and produced some amazing posters and work which we shared at the end of the week.

 June 2016 Year 5 Visit RAF Brize Norton

As part of their topic 'Take Off!' the children in Year 5 spent the day at RAF Brize Norton. This was a great way to start their study of the local area and the influence the RAF base has had on the local and world wide community.

May 2016 Queen's Tea Party

The children in reception enjoyed a tea party with parents and grandparents to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.


 April 2016 Reception Visit Lea Wood

On Friday 22nd April it was Oak and Beech classes turn to visit Lea Woods for a Forest School experience. The children had an amazing time!

 April 2016 Year 1 Visit Lea Woods

On 19th April Year 1 spent the day in Lea Woods at Forest School. They built shelters and undertook a range of outdoor activities related to their science topic.

March 2016 Year 3 and 4 Easter Performance

The children in Year 3 and 4 impressed the school community with their performance of the Easter Story. Their acting and singing was amazing. Well done to all the children.

 March 2016 Chicks Hatch in Early Years

It has been an eggciting few weeks in Early Years as the children have watched the baby chicks hatch. The children have been learning all about new life as part of their Easter topic.


World Book Day 2016

To celebrate World Book Day we had a Reading Festival. We all came dressed in our festival clothes and enjoyed a range of book based activities. We enjoyed reading together throughout the day.

23rd February Year 2 Visit Christchurch Cathedral and Synagogue in Oxford

It was a very busy and exciting day where the children were able to ask questions and learn about the different parts of Cathedral and Synagogue. We also enjoyed dressing up as Monks and walking on a pilgrimage.

February 2016 Year 4 Visit Lea Woods

Year 4 finally enjoyed their day in Lea Woods, they had a great time and their behaviour was fantastic as reported by our volunteer helpers and the Earnest Cook Trust staff.

 2nd February Year 1 visit to Roves Farm

The Year 1 visit to Roves Farm was a great success and we were really lucky with the weather. The children loved all the animals, especially the goat which they wanted to bring home as school pet!


19th January Year 5 visit Lea Woods

Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Lea Woods. The cold fresh air did not stop us searching for animal habitats and learning about how they are adapted to the wood environment. 

17th December Whole School Church Service

On the morning of 17th December the whole school visited St John's church for our annual Christmas service. This year our theme was 'Peace on Earth'. We shared learning from our RE lessons and celebrated in song and prayer.


15th & 16th December KS1 Christmas Performance

The children in Year 1 and 2 have amazed us all with their singing, dancing and acting this week as they performed the nativity, Stargazers. We were all incredibly proud of the children and all their hard work over the last two weeks.

11th December 2015 Visit by David Cameron

We were delighted to welcome the Prime Minister and MP for Witney, David Cameron, to St John's to open our new school library. Mr Cameron spoke to all the children in the hall about what his children enjoy reading, what he likes reading and asked them about their favourite authors and books. He then opened the library with a group of children and read them a story. We all enjoyed the afternoon.

10th December 2015 Reception Christmas Performance

The children in Oak and Beech class kept us all entertained with their Christmas performance. We saw some brilliant acting and listened to some fantastic singing. Well done to everyone who took part, the mums and dads and everyone in school felt very proud.

 4th December 2015 Author Visit

We were very excited when the author, John Dougherty, visited us. He worked with all of the children from nursery to Year 6. He told us stories and sang songs to us. It was very entertaining. At the end of the day he signed his books for us. Visit the John Dougherty website here.


December 2015 New School Library

With the help of the school community, we have a wonderful new library. On Friday 4th December all of the children worked with the author, John Dougherty. Keep an eye out for photos of our official opening on 11th December





November 2015 Remembrance

The whole school has focused on two BIG questions: 'Why do we Remember?' and Why do people pray?

All of the children across the school visited the repatriation garden to pay their respects.


November 2015 Children in Need

For Children in Need we all researched a superhero or influential person and came to school dressed as them. We raised £346.11 for children in need. Thank you everyone.


October 2015 Year 6 Residential

In October the Year 6 children went to Osmington Bay for their annual residential. They had an amazing time.
