Curriculum Enrichment

Our curriculum extends beyond the taught curriculum and includes a wide range of enriching experiences and opportunities both within and beyond the school day. This includes a programme of after-school clubs and educational visits that support the core curriculum offer and extend children’s experiences.

Whole School Theme Days/Weeks

Throughout the year, themed days and weeks are woven into the curriculum to extend and enhance the breadth and balance of opportunities we offer our pupils. These include, Anti-Bullying Week, Safer Internet Day, European Day of Languages, Environment Week, Arts Week, World Book Day, Sport & Health Week, Science Week, RE Days and much more.

After-School Clubs

To support our pupils to fly, rise and soar we offer a range of after-school clubs to develop pupil’s talents and interests. The extra-curricular provision is delivered by school staff and external providers. We want our children to find something they have a talent or passion for and our clubs support this, whether it be joining a sports club, taking part in choir or learning to cook. Our clubs vary from term to term, taking into account feedback and request from our children.

Educational Visits and Visitors

Our commitment is for our children to have the opportunity to enhance their classroom learning each term through our planned programme of educational visits and visitors.

Forest School & Outdoor Learning

Forest Schools is designed to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through an innovative, long term, educational approach to outdoor play and learning in a woodland environment.  As a school we are very fortunate in having our own outdoor learning area and a teacher trained to deliver the Forest Schools programme.

Forest Schools is offered to our Nursery and Reception children weekly and our Year 1 children during the spring and summer terms. Forest School is also offered during the year as an after-school club for older children.

Rich Sports Offer

Our full time Sports Teacher, provides a rich programme of sports activities and experiences for all ages. At lunchtimes our positive pay activity programme provides opportunities for children to engage in active play and sport. After school clubs each day offer a broad range of sports as do the numerous sporting festivals and competitions that children are encourages to take part in. Each term all year groups also take part on intra-school competition where children can apply the knowledge and skills they have learnt over the term.

Peripatetic Music Programme

Once children reach Year 3, they have the opportunity to learn an instrument with one of our peripatetic music teachers. This could be piano, guitar, violin or a woodwind instrument. In Year 5 all children learn to play a brass instrument through First Access Music.

Pupil Leadership Opportunities

Our children have a wide range of opportunities to develop character and understand how to be responsible and active citizens. At the start of each year, the children can stand for a number of roles. They prepare presentations to their classes and then we hold class elections. All children are invited and supported to apply.

In addition, children in Year 6 have the opportunity to apply in writing each year for the position of Head Boy and Head Girl.

Our Communication Team supports the coordination and events planned by the:

  • Well-being champions
  • Peer Mediators
  • Values champions
  • Digital leaders
  • Language leaders
  • Sports leaders
  • Hall helpers
  • Student librarians

Supporting the Local Community and Charity Work

Our curriculum supports the children to become ‘agents of change’. The planned curriculum teaches children about equality as well as environmental challenges and sustainability. We actively support local initiatives for example, working with the Town Council on local projects and children fundraise for charities which they select over the year.
