Remote Learning

The information and documents on this page are intended to provide clarity to pupils and parents about what to expect from remote education where national or local restrictions require individuals, classes or the wider school to remain at home or individuals are having to self-isolate because of COVID-19.

The Remote Learning Strategy details the provision offered by the school in different situations and the expectations of children, parents and teachers.

On the first day of a period of remote education, parents will be directed to the school website for home based activities or provided with a paper pack of work. From day two of remote education, learning moves online via Tapestry in EYFS and Year 1 and Microsoft Teams in Years 2 to 6. Lessons include a mix of live lessons, recorded lessons, presentation materials and independent tasks.

We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school, wherever possible and appropriate. However, we have needed to make adaptations in some subjects, for example where content or the need for subject specific resources make it unfeasible to be taught at home.

Our remote education will be equivalent in length to the core teaching pupils would receive in school:

EYFS and Key Stage 1: a minimum of 3 hours a day

Key Stage 2: a minimum of 4 hours a day

Remote Education is provided using online platforms. We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. Where this is the case we ask parents to contact the School Business Manager who will arrange for the loan of a device, internet dongle or if needed contact the teacher for printed materials.

Parent Guide to Teams 1               Parent Guide to joining Live Lessons

Pupils are expected to engage in work daily, joining morning registration and any live lessons where possible. Work should be returned via Tapestry and Teams within the timescales set by the teacher to allow the work to be marked and feedback given. Teachers check pupils' engagement with remote education daily and where there is a concern, the teacher or a member of the Pastoral Team will contact the parent for offer support.

We ask that parents support their children by establishing a routine at home and helping them access and hand in their work as required. The amount of support a child will need is dependent on the age of the child.

We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without additional support from adults at home. To support pupils teaching assistants join live lessons as well as offer breakout rooms to teach specific interventions where possible. The SEND coordinator also coordinates with teachers to provide any specific paper based resources that may support individual pupils at home.

We recognise that positive mental health and well-being are the most important consideration during a period of national lockdown. The Pastoral Team are in school daily to support children and families. Where a parent is finding remote education difficult or feels they need any additional support, we ask that they contact the school for support.
